LEVEL 2 MASTER GARDENER CLASS
Happy New Year! Now is time to start putting together a Level 2 Master Gardener Class.
If you have contacted our office and asked about the class, then you are receiving this letter. If you have completed Level 1 and your 20 hours of volunteer requirements, you are receiving this letter. If you have completed Level 1, but have not completed your volunteer hours or have not gotten the necessary paper work to me, you are getting this information too!
Level 2 Master Gardener:
The classes will be taught by the local Extension agents, plant professionals, volunteers, or via Adobe Connect and the Internet. The Level 2 Master Gardener course is an intermediate/advanced gardening course for those who have prior knowledge or experience in gardening. The Level 2 Master Gardener course will teach you:
The role of Master Gardener in Extension
Binomial nomenclature
Fertility, plant nutrients (more emphasis on micronutrients and microorganisms)
Plant growth and development Part 2
Entomology, plant diseases and abiotic disorders
Vegetable and fruit Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Trees, shrubs, and lawn Integrated Pest management (IPM)
Advanced pruning and woody ornamental care
Propagation
Water Conservation
Following the completion of the Level 2 master Gardener course, you will be required to pass a closed-book exam and fulfill your volunteer commitment of 30 hours of volunteer commitment.
I am seeking input on possible options for number of sessions per week. I have listed potential class schedules and would really appreciate you selecting the option that would work best for you. Once I hear back from the majority of you, then I can move forward on finalizing dates, place and time.
Potential Class Options:
Option 1: Two sessions per week (Tuesday & Thursday) - 9:30 am - 12 noon
Option 2: Two sessions per week (Tuesday & Thursday) - 5:30 – 8 pm
Option 3: Combine two sessions on a Saturday -10 am to 3 pm
The first 3 options will be intense and will facilitate doing Level 2 in 4 weeks instead of 8 weeks. The last Master Gardener Level 1 was done in 4 weeks, with 100% approval.
Option 4: One session per week (Wednesday) – 9:30 am - 12 noon
Option 5: One session per week (Wednesday) – 5:30 - 8 pm
Your input is valuable and it is imperative that you let me know as soon as you can on what works best for you. I realize it is somewhat unusual to give so many options, but I continually would like to try and learn what can be a good time for participants. However, I will only be doing one Level 2 class.
I will not be holding classes until March/April. Hopefully the "really" bad weather will be done and we can get outside. The cost will be $150.with a refund of $50 once the 30 volunteer hours are complete. The fee will cover supplies and costs of the class. Scholarships will be available.
I look forward to bringing Level 2 to Ravalli County. It should be great.
Thank You.
